Interesting.
I have been told that it isn't uncommon in tropical locations to see this. Most do not leave unwrapped chocolate out as some ants really like it. Even Mikey from AntsCanada has a video of this, where part of his chocolate bar disappeared from inside the wrapper.

HEY! Halloween haters! Stop making me think about all the bugs that are in candy!

haha, I am a halloween and a lego hater now huh?
Though seriously, what is the nutritional value of say a jolly rancher? I'm thinking about salt licks for live stock -- what about a sugar lick for ants?? I eat chocolate so they don't get that..but a jolly rancher could be spared.

That's awesome... although I doubt it was a whole colony.
Hit "Like This" if it helped.
That is really funny. I love the headline that says the offer of a 1 pound refund was slammed. O british sayings can be funny.

Although unlikely, here is a secondary theory of mine : what if the ants where not nesting within the egg but instead, happened to be foraging on the table she left it on and found a small gap between the wrapping and the egg. I saw nothing resembling brood within the egg, but then again the quality of the footage was pretty terrible.
I once saw a Tapinoma melanocephalum saltellite colony in sime icebreakers @sgheaton
You guys have Tapinoma melanocephalum all the way up in Canada?

Haha nice meme
Ex igne et in infernum.
The ants probably found the egg, and were feasting on the insides for quite some time. I doubt there was a whole colony in it. Funny thing is that was probably most nutritious Cadbury Egg she could have eaten.
Ants give it that extra protein and that mysterious flavor.
