I found this Myrmecocystus navajo on the side of the road where I stopped to look around.

 

All these pictures of these Pogonomyrmex sp. colonies were from the morning after I saw the Myrmecocystus navajo colony.

I found this Formica sp. on the way back from the Grand Canyon.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I saw many other ants, but these are the ones I got photos of.

That is a huge Pogonomyrmex mound.

It is, and from what I see the mounds are hollow with chambers inside!

Have you ever tried collecting some small succulents and cacti that are not on the red list when you are on desert expeditions? Your shots have revived an interest for me.
