I had caught my first queen, which, thanks to the wonderful folks here identified as a Dorymyrmex. I've had her about a week now, and she looks like she is taking care of a small clutch of eggs. She looks fine at the moment, but I don't know how often or when I should start worrying about feeding. Also, here in the states, I'm having a hard time identifying which brick I actually need from the likes of Home Depot or Lowe's or someplace similar for a starter nest. None of the bricks are labeled as ytong, aac, or whatever I've seen on-line. Thank you for your help.

just about the best ant you could keep. It is the ideal ant. imo. don't really need to feed until you get your nanitic workers. yTong, aac, isn't readily available in the US. if you're going to want to make a Ytong style nest a firebrick is what you're going to use. Or just follow my formicarum build journal using hydrostone.
