I don't have the ants I'm selling listed in ants that I'm keeping so the list you see under here are not for sale, but I have a large stock of different native ant species from Virginia

I have a Camponotus Noveboracensus colony 1 queen, 2 workers I'm willing to sell for $25
My area seems to have a lack of Formica
I can collect a couple of Lasius queens tomorrow (100% guarantee) (negotiate price depending on species)
I also have other species you can buy that are easier to take care of for example Aphenogaster fulva
Keeps:
1:Pogonomymex occidentalis
4: Tetramorium immigrans
2 Reticulitermes flavipes
I can easily find these listed genus/species within 1 day:
Camponotus
Lasius umbranatus
Lasius sp.
Aphenogaster fulva
Aphenogaster picea
Ponera
Monomorium minimum
Pheidole sp.
Possibly Stigmatomma (Expert keeping level)

4: Tetramorium immigrans
2 Reticulitermes flavipes
Is your son looking specifically for Camponotus, Lasius, or Formica or does he mind other species? I HIGHLY suggest Aphenogaster as the have medium growth, cool to watch, and have a simi-harvesting behavior which they will gather seeds. They also are super super easy to take care of. I had a colony and it was super low maintenance compared to other species. Camponotus would be my next suggestion but the only downfall is that they grow super super slow. By the end of the year you will probably have less than 25 workers.

They also eat basically anything you feed them, they love their sugars. They will eat seeds and nuts, though not necessary. They will also need protein to grow, which can be insects like crickets to raw meat like beef or chicken.

I can get a colony tomorrow, what size would you want the colony? 5, 10, 15, 20, etc workers (w/larvae)?

I have a few suggestions of good beginners, namely Camponotus, tetramorium, pheidole, or aphaenogaster.

Do any of you want to buy a supercolony of S. molesta?
There are over 6 queens, hundreds of workers, and more thousands of brood.
