Hello all,

I believe I have a problem with my Lasius niger colony.

The colony is housed in a test tube within an outworld. I believe the ants have been stacking their waste against the cotton of the water reservoir. This led to the cotton ball becoming green, but I thought nothing of it because Iv'e read it wouldn't be a problem. However, the water in the reservoir is now coloured red. I thought this was alarming, so I'm coming to you guys for help. I've tried moving them with light and heat already. I have even shaken the queen from the tube into the outworld, and she quickly took shelter into a new testtube. However, the ants would not follow her and after an hour she moved back into the brightly lit testtube. I'm getting desperate now. I really don't want to lose this colony as it's my first ever and I have grown quite attached to it. Help me please!

In reality the water is a little more red than the pictures show.

What I go by is that the ants know what's best for themselves. As long as you provide a clean test tube, they will move if they need to. The mold probably isn't harmful to them or hasn't reached the point where they feel they need to move yet.

Yup, just put in clean one so they can move if needed.
