Yes, please. It's unecessary to create multiple posts in a row. This is the forum, not chat. ;) It's considered spam.

you can't do that with P. pallidus though, they will only nest in tight cylindrical spaces. mine are in a tiny test tube.

also you can nest them in a home made out world like Kujawa orchids does. he made an outworld and put sticks in it.

also these ants tend to be expensive because they are great for making money. partly because they behave like black crazy ants and after they mate they return to the nest.

At first, I thought they'd only tolerate tight spaces too. AntsGalore has started his colony very successfully in a Mini-Hearth. I'm not entirely sure if Pseudomyrmex pallidus would behave differently though. I go to Canes a lot though so I wouldn't have a problem with providing straws  That last part would only work if the colony was big enough, as I'd have to give the separated queen workers so she wouldn't die of stress.

Sorry, I have no good pictures. The ones I have are a bit worse than your colony photos (only got the queen & some brood). Boy, she was tricky to raise. She was my first queen, and I somehow managed to get workers from her. she actually escaped once, but returned to her tube to feed her growing larvae. I ended up releasing the queen with her twenty-three workers in a bamboo grove near my school (I couldn't bring myself to kill the colony, I know that releasing ants isn't recommended).

TC and Evan,
I apologize for having tunneling thoughts. And for posting after I remembered things.

Yep, using the edit button to add extra ideas to your posts would help, Anthub.

Antsy, your colony looks nice!

Antsy, how long have you been keeping Pogonomyrmex occidentalis. I’m trying to figure out why my 100 worker colony has no brood

I’ve had it for a month but Pogonomyremex won’t produce brood in moist habitats I keep mine at about 50%

Oh, my nest is not that moist though. The queen should start laying eggs soon because she seems to have stopped moving around from Nest to nest

My Pogonomyrmex barbatus colony eats some of their brood during the cold months. Pogonomyrmex might need hibernation in Colorado but I'm not sure.
