I was thinking this was Monomorium minimum, but someone from Kansas posted a picture that is similar to mine and someone said it was tetramorium immigrans so now i'm not sure.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Salina Kansas

2. Date of collection: 06/26/18

3. Habitat of collection: Sunflower field, mating on the leaves.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 4.76 mm or 0.1875 inches

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: head, thorax and abdomen are black. Mandibles are red-ish brown, tarsals are red-ish brown

6. Distinguishing characteristics: two petiole nodes, not spines that i could see. Not sure about the queen but the male has 13 antennal segments. the males is about the same size as the queen the only difference is the large abdomen.

7. Distinguishing behavior: During mating the queen is on her back with abdomen pointed up and the males is on top facing away. she actively does something with her mandibles to his abdomen while they are mating not sure what but, it doesn't seem like she is biting him.

8. Nest description: N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 06/26/18 around 9:45am
