Hello Ant Wizards,

 

Found more queens today of a different species. Not sure what to make of it, it doesn't look like my solenopsis invicta.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Sharpsburg, Georgia Zip: 30277
2. Date of collection: 5/30/18
3. Habitat of collection: Southside Atlanta suburbs are carved out of forest.

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Black, smooth, hairy


6. Distinguishing characteristics: NA

7. Distinguishing behavior: NA

8. Nest description: Not sure

 

9. Nuptial flight time and date: 5/30/18

Pheidole Bicarinata - Queen, 5 workers.
Formica Palledefulva - Queen with eggs.

Pseudomyrmex Pallidus - Queen, No Eggs.

Is there a photo I could provide that you could use to make a clear distinction between those possibilities?

 

Otherwise i'll keep them with the rest of my queens for a week and check for eggs. Invicta haven't been flying around my neighborhood and we don't have many invicta nests. I'll cross my fingers for tetra.

It's a male, so it won't lay eggs; it'll die regardless of what you do. There are definitely ways to distinguish between S. invicta and T. immigrans males, but I don't have the necessary experience to do so and it, frankly, won't matter too much anyways.
