I would say Lasius umbratus.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Ottawa Ontario Canada

2. Date of collection: 02-05-2018
3. Habitat of collection: Forest, under a log.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 8mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: brownish red
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 
7. Distinguishing behavior: Very agitated, hates the cotton plug
8. Nest description: Rotting log

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A

 
Looks similar to the Lasius claviger  Identified in this thread  but less red and has a larger gaster.
