How do each of these species do vs. vertical and upside down surfaces (underside of horizontal surface will be baby-powdered)? Finishing up a formicarium and trying to decide on which will be least likely to escape.

 

I want to lean toward Aphaenogaster because they are slightly larger, but Tetramorium are so fast to grow, they might populate this unit much faster and be a bit more enjoyable.

Tetramorium has terrible grip and can't climb smooth surfaces very well. Even a weak barrier will be able to keep them in. Aphaenogaster has great grip and will need a strong barrier.
