Boooooo
Won’t be until May then for the main flight.

Here tomorrow will be the next flight. High of 83 and low of 60-something.

I found a Camponotus pennsylvanicus (I think) dealate today in a cup of potting soil, so I'm guessing they flew yesterday/earlier this morning. Could've been a one-off. Also found a Camponotus chromaiodes alate last week with a dying male nearby. Anyone think the Camponotus flights are coming early this year? Or was I just way out of the loop last year?

Cool! They definitely could have flown last weekend. Flights were later last year, but it was a cooler spring. We had ice in May, even.

Nice find, Ali. I know they flew last weekend.

They’re big mammas. Big flights should happen soon, but it needs to get warmer. Yesterday got too windy.

Today or tomorrow may be the time for Camponotus.

Cool. How do you distinguish faisonensis from vividula? Just wondering.

N. fasionensis has "dense cephalic pubescence" whereas vividula does not.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I'm in the woods and I don't see any flights... but a Camponotus queen walked into my kitchen at 3am last night
