My Pogonomyrmex barbatus have been taking hit after hit recently. Over a period of four months, around five workers have died because of my stupid mistakes. They're now left with four workers (one is acting stange so it'll probably be 3 soon), a small pile of about six eggs, and a very small larva. Should I tube feed them instead of offering an outworld, and keep them in the dark closet when they aren't eating? I'm sure some of your colonies have been on low periods, before exploding later. Basically, I'm just wondering what I can do to support them until more workers arrive. The workers take about two months to develoup, so this is why I'm worried.

Make sure you keep them very warm, at least 85 Fahrenheit. Also, you may want to consider moving them to a dirt setup, people have much more successful colonies in these. Otherwise, leave an outworld as to not stress them out. This genus is extremely vulnerable to stress. Leaving their tube in the dark and giving them an outworld will probably be the next best thing to do after a dirt setup.

This might be a little off topic but, Where did you capture her and what month of the year?

I bought her, but I'd be willing to bet she'd been caught in June - July.
