Almost sounds like Pseudomyrmex gracilis though I imagine you'd have mentioned if they were lightning quick and had a post petiole.

Extremely timid, appears to have some sight since it actively avoids my movement, is very slender with orange brown mandibles, black head, orange brown first set of legs, black back 2 sets of legs, orange brown petiole and black thorax (The petiole is a little long for the body). I've no clue if they sting or even bite for that matter since I've invaded a small portion of their nest and they just hide deeper (The ones that do come out only do so after 2-5 minutes of no disturbance and are docile. They are nested in a dead branch on a mesquite tree. The worker is 5/16 inch.

I'll try to do a pic

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

That would be it, I haven't seen them run as of yet, and forgot to add the post petiole part. Thank you for the quick and accurate ID.
