Hello everybody!!
Do any of you antkeepers know how to find Pheidole queens or colonies? I am currently trying to find a queen but I cannot..I believe I have a colony of them in my lawn but I don't want to go tearing it up just for some ants...

Do Some research about the species and catch a queen during the nuptial flights seasons.

Digging them out will likely fail, and probably kill the colony. Place a large stash of bait near their nest. My buddy found some with some sweets, but I think the literature mentions vienna sausage bait. Look for the tell tale majors. If you see them, get your stuff ready for next year. July august I think is the time frame. You might be able actually catch a few late flyers still. Another option see if anyone local to you (same state!!! It's the law) has any extras they might be willing to part with.

Look for colonies in open areas with sparse vegetation. I've only seen one queen, which I captured on my porch a couple weeks back after a heavy late- night thunderstorm sometime between midnight and 1 AM. So I imagine the best method to catch queens would be to set up a light trap near an area with colonies at night after rain.
