Our caterpillar has finally transformed into a beautiful monarch butterfly. Inside the chrysalis, one of nature's most amazing transformations took place as the parts of the caterpillar rearranged into a butterfly.

A day before opening, the colours of the butterfly became visible.

That night the chrysalis opened, and the newly emerged butterfly pumped up and unfolded his new wings and by morning was ready for a sunbath and drink of nectar before beginning his journey south to Mexico.

Very cool to see, great pictures! I have a milkweed plant or two in the front yard, but there weren't as many cocoons this year. I love how you can see the wing patterns just before they emerge.
