So yesterday I picked up an ant colony locally from a friend here in VA, however neither of us were certain as to the species, so I was hoping that maybe somebody here could help me. I have attached a few decent pictures below.
 
Features:
Black/brownish color with a orange/yellow gaster
They sting but they aren't extremely aggressive like some fire ant species.
Around 6mm-8mm in length
Very active
