Location: Southwest suburbs of Chicago, Will County, on soil covered with pine needles.

Date of Collection: 6/13/17

Habitat: Backyard

Length: 7/32" long - very small

Coloration: Difficult to say due to size - reddish brown?

Distinguishing Characteristics: Really small

Anything else descriptive: not much

Nest description: N/A

I'm not even sure she is a queen, though she most certainly seems to have an enlarged thorax and a massive abdomen.

 

Maybe Tapinoma sessile?

I agree with Tapinoma sessile. She is fat!

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

 

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

It definitely looks like a Tapinoma sessile queen, but she's much, much thicker than mine.
