Caught during a blacklight night hunt in between rain storms. Literally 30 minutes of no rain this beauty shows up.
1. Location of collection: Summerville SC
2. Date of collection: 6/5/2017 at night
3. Habitat of collection: my house, woods and creek nearby
4. Length (from head to gaster): about 7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: a mesh of yellow/black is all i can describe when in bright light and i don't know how accurate that is.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: large gasters compared to a lot of queens i catch here.
7. Distinguishing behavior: slower movements doesnt panic even after picking her up by hand to originally catch her. (she was not harmed)
8. Nest description: none

Likely Dorymyrmex bureni.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.
