1. Suburban Neighborhood

2. 6/2/207 (Afternoon)

3. Neighborhood sidewalk in shady area. Area is forest-like

4. 14mm

5. Dark orange body except for the gaster which has alternating rows of dark orange and light orange. Long Legs

7. This ant is fast, and I mean fast. She can run across the sidewalk in 4 seconds probably. She is also an excellent climber. She reminds me of a crazy ant.

8. N/A

The pictures are terrible. (No offense) But oddly enough, this looks like Prenolepis Imparis. It being this late in the year though is crazy. They fly much earlier than this! But the area sounds right.

@cobratank, can you get some front photos. The size and time of the year isn't right.

The size of the test tube is 18 x 150mm if that helps with the size of the queen. I am not the best with a ruler, but I tried my best.

Way too big. C. impressa queens average 6 mm

Are you sure? Could it be Camponotus castaneus? I guess I just always thought Formica flew in July-August.

No problem. Is there any way you could get some clearer, closer images?

I have a friend borrowing a nice camera, he should be giving it back to me soon. I will post more pictures when I get the camera.

Well Camponotus castaneus are flying around these parts now so if say it's that.
Very fun ants to raise!
