So we're dealing with a bit of flooding here in St. Louis and it got me thinking about how ant colonies cope with it. I know that rain doesn't really have a huge effect on them, as the water just flows downward through the soil, but what happens once it starts collecting on top of the soil? Do they evacuate their nests? I'm also wondering what happens to species that live in wood. I know of two Camponotus pennsylvanicus colonies that would be underwater at the moment.
