So this will be my first ant keeping journal. It is about my Ponera pennsylvanicus colony. It was found under a rock and is about 13 workers strong. Although they are queenless, some or one worker has taken on the role of egglaying. They are housed in a small glass box with a hige clump of peat moss as their nest. Tjey prefer high humidity and they are strictly predacious and eat only D. hydei fruit flies.They have a small clump of eggs. Hopefully the colony will grow...

Proverbs 6:6-8 New International Version (NIV)

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
    consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
    no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
    and gathers its food at harvest.

True, but after intensive observation, they seemed to be all workers. I recently moved them into a test tube setup with sand because the mold was uncontrollable in the container.

This is long overdue, but I should post it anyways-

Test tubes, for whatever reason, don't work for these ants, and sand doesn't seem to work. The colony died, so I recently acquired 2 new colonies and added peat moss to their nest area. Currently, they are all doing well so far. All of my colonies are queenless. I will have to make a separate forum about these ants...
