Sometime in early March I caught three messor queens near each other next to a nest. They were the first queens of this year I caught. When I compared them to some of the queens that flew later in the week I saw that they were weirdly small so I switched two of them out. The two new queens quickly laid eggs and the eggs were developing quickly. The tiny queen that I chose to keep laid eggs too but they were yellow and tiny and they weren't developing at all. One of the two larger queens died even though she was doing doing so well. The tiny queen was infertile so I threw her in a spider web in frustration but I took her off of it later and just put her on the ground because I felt bad. The one queen left is the one that I'm making this journal on. I checked on her today and she had tones of pupae. She seems to be doing very well and I'll update you guys every Sunday.
