Species: camponotus nearcticus

 

Location found: In a rotten log behind my house

 

Age of colony: 2-3 years old

 

Workers/nanitics: ~100-200

 

Majors: ~10-20

 

Super: ~12

 

**will post more info on the 2nd post, 1st post is just stats about the colony**

I thought it was time to show off my largest colony i have ever owned and the largest colony i've ever gathered. these girls are the most aggressive and impressive colony i've ever seen. as you can see in the pic above, all the brood they wintered with is currently in larvae stage (with some in pupae). last week they went into food overdrive and are swarming food the moment i put it with them. as you can see in the pic below they send out alot of workers to feed. I'm betting these girls will have a flight this year based on the number of ants and brood.

That is pretty sweet, what do you feed them? do you plan on letting them fly outside?

i plan to let all my colonies have flights when they can. I feed all my colonies the same items: fruit flies, super worms, my "ant juice" (honey/water/sugar/hummingbird nectar), water, and live prey i find in my backyard (its where all the colonies are collected from)
