I keep my honey pot ants displayed 24/7. They don't mind light. Sometimes I want a better view and I grab my flashlight and magnifying glass. They could care less. The queens get slightly annoyed, but they never panic. My C. sayi stay covered. My queen Camponotus go nuts when exposed to light.

My tetramorium go nuts when I take the red cellophane off.

My Tetramorium do too. I found I can keep the red clear acrylic sheet over them and they seem ok with partial or no dark paper over them.  However if I remove the red sheet, they get pretty stressed out.

My Camponotus aren't bothered by light at all. The queen gets slightly annoyed by sudden changes in light, but otherwise they couldn't care less.
