Hello,

Can someone please ID this queen we found today in the ground at a park in Simi Valley, CA? We found multiple queens in the nest and we think it may be an Argentine Queen Ant. Sorry for the blurry picture. Many thanks in advance!

The picture and location are ok, but there is no measurement.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Sounds like an Argentine to me.. Just know that if the words "California", "4-5mm", and "multi-queen colony" show up in the same paragraph, it's probably an Argentine ant queen.

Hey guys do you think I can put 2 of the queens together in a cage since they were from the same colony?

If they're Argentine ants you could even mix her with a queen from Italy and they would get along just fine.

I don't think the pictures are clear enough to identify to the genus, but it is in the Dolichoderinae subfamily.
