The not so hibernating queen has decided to continue her pursuit of formicarium population explosion. The eggs are up to a dozen and 26 larvae. I'm excited to be a new dad lol.

My first larvae began to pupate last night I have 2 of the 20+ starting to encapsulate. I'm hoping to have new ants by Christmas. Is that a reasonable expectation? So 20+ larvae 2 pupae and probably 24 or so eggs. I'm going to be a dad again. Whooohoo. I'm pumped as this will be my first captive brood. Although I do have 11 workers it will be different.

Umm let see I put her in my 40 degree basement and she just continues to lay eggs. Workers acted as if it wasn't cold. They only hibernated maybe 45 days
So I might pay later on for pulling them back out. Time will tell

My Camponotus sure are hibernating hard. They stopped laying eggs and foraging back in October.
If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.
Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Soon to be my new outworld. It will be natural as I plan on using an inch of soil to plant real gress. Then the other half will be sanded grout I will probably us gardening paper for the soIL portion so they aren't inclined to dig.
