Welcome to Formiculture! Looking at your wishlist, I can tell you that Lasius alienus are found often in forests, under rocks in sand. I am not sure if Prenolepis imparis live in UK, but I find them in dead tree stumps all the time, whether that be in a forest or open field. We don't live near but that is from personal experience.

Interesting to see someone currently located in Africa, even if it is temporary. While there, what ants do you plan on keeping?

black crazy ants are easily dug up on beaches, find a hole with black crazy ants coming out, use shovel to make the hole bigger and soon you will find ants swarming out, also they are polygmous so it is easier  (y)

p.s. welcome!

Probably pheidole and solenopsis since they're common here

North American Lasius alienus prefer forest habitats, but the English varieties like to nest in grasslands. It could be that an entirely different ecosystem has produced entirely different habits or, just as likely, our two Lasius alienus might not be the same species.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.

I was afraid of changes behavior-wise with both countries (that is why I noted we lived far from each other). Man, there is so much confusion when it comes to L Niger and L alienus.
