I found this queen arund a month and a half ago(I don't have the exact dates for the begging of this journal) , during a huge nuptial flight, it's  it's a Solenopsis Saevissima queen.

I decided o boost this colony since there was a colony of them in my yard. After some time I had the first worker:

After some some days I had 3 workers, but 2 died, and only the first one survived. I left them alone for some more time and then when I checked again I had only one worker(the same one probably) and some dead bodies, I concluded that this worker was probably killing the other workers as soon as they are born.

Topic of the discussion:

I went outside trying to find another Solenopsis Saevissima queen and I ended up digging up one, I removed the murderer worker from the test tube and placed the new queen, a short video showing them in the first minute

Update 12-29-16

The colony from the first update is not doing well, there's a lot of mold, they don't want to move and almost no brood. We had a solenopsis nuptial flight this month and I decided to take some. I made this setup from the photos with 3 queens and it's the one that's doing better.

The queens decided to dig a hole into the water cotton and placed a lot of brood there and some outside(apparently when I was taking the pictured they placed all the brood together, maybe because of the strong light).

I don't know if the queens have stings, but the workers have. That's a good question, next time I see a wild one I'll see if it stings me hahaha.

Queens can not sting, because in the place of a stinger they have "egg-layers"  :)

JPS, I enjoy reading your journals but i have trouble getting through them without being jealous. So I try not to comment because I might say something I shouldn't.

No definetly keep updating. Journals are my favorite part of this forum. I just don't comment much because in a way that would be polluting there journal.

While I was trying to take a picture of the brown pupae I saw a worker, and decided to record a short video:

Update 01-16-17

There's about 5 workers now, I can't see them very well because they are mostly inside the hole in the cotton. I gave them a piece of cotton with sugar water and a piece of mealworm.

I plan moving them to a test tube soon.
