Interesting behaviour from Lasius Niger

So I put this big blowfly in with my Lasius Niger colony. All of a sudden about 35 workers came flying out! And were in the outworld (the colony has about 90 workers). Why did so many come out? Was it because they thought it was a threat even though it was dead? That has never happened before.

I have a video of all of them in the outworld. But it's not them all running into the outworld. I don't know how to post videos.

Maybe they were just really hungry or really liked smell of the tasty fly.

Also in an ant colony only the oldest and most experienced workers go outside to forage - it may just happen that more of your workers are old enough now to go outside than before.
