So i have some chicken legs for keeping placed in the freezer. Can i just take a little bit off, put it in some warm water and just give that to my ants?

What else can you feed as sugar and protein sources when you don't have honey and other feeder insects??

Ants get their energy from dissolved sugars, so there are many options other than honey. If you don't have feeder insects (i.e. flightless fruit flies or mealworms), I would get some. They are available at most pet stores (in the US, at least) or can be purchased online. If feeder insects are particularly difficult to find, you could probably attract and culture wild fruit flies.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

I'd only use the really good gourmet dry food, as the cheaper stuff usually contains mites and other contaminates.

Freshly killed feeder insects are the best. Why feed smelly, gross, a disease-ridden raw meat, when you can, uhhhh... Not do that? Protein from insects is the best for ants.

Adult ants without larvae need to drink hemolymph to get their protein, so fresh-frozen insects are best (unless they are myrmicine seed/fungus-eaters).
