I just caught some queens (unknown sp.) and want to create a natural formicarium/outworld.

What does everyone use as substrate/medium for their natural nests?

I am worried sand would collapse, and dirt from my yard would rot/mold.

I believe some of the queens are Lasius and some are Solenopsis.

Make a sand clay mixture or buy terrarium/reptile sand premade mix. :-)
