1. Location of collection: Santa Monica Mountains, a few miles south of Thousand Oaks, CA.  Found on backyard patio wandering around alone on the concrete.
2. Date of collection: 8/13/16 at approx 9AM
3. Habitat of collection: Backyard backing onto surrounding hills consisting of dried low grasses and chaparral
4. Length (from head to gaster): 7-8mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Reddish-brown head and thorax, gaster dark brown/black, with stripe of reddish-brown underside
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Two petinole nodes
7. Distinguishing behavior: Queen still has not removed her wings, however she has laid a cluster of at least a dozen eggs which she seems to constantly attend to.
8. Nest description: N/A

How did you differentiate S. xyloni from S. invicta


Camponotus vicinus, Crematogaster 1, Crematogaster 2, Formica francoeuri, *, *, Myrmecocystus testaceus, Novomessor cockerelli, Pheidole hyatti, Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex rugosus, Solenopsis invicta
