Nurbs, those Honeypots are REALLY expensive. I’d buy them but they just cost so much.

For the amount of effort it takes to actually catch and rear honeypots, I would definitely say his prices for them are justified. Anting for and keeping pots is no cheap endeavor, both time and budget wise.

If you only knew how much time and effort I put into rearing them, you'll realize it's not. Everyone assumes I make a profit from selling ants. I don't. It just pays for the hobby.

I know honeypots are really hard to care for because of the fact that they can be easily stressed, require heating, proper and specific food and hydration, easily die in shipping, and can just die for no reason. I’m just saying that price is above my budget, and I never said you are making a profit from this.

If it was over your budget and you know his price is justified idk whole point of mentioning he has them for "high" price. I talked to Nurb about honeypot ants as well but he did told me why price was set at those price and I totally understood. Chance of honeypot ants to actually develop into colony is less than 50% successful rate based on my research. If you want some lower budget honey pot ants, check andrew's posting. he has other honey pot ants on founding stage colony for sale for prob within your budget. (not mexicanus though)

I did check on Drew’s page, a bunch of his honeypots died he told me in a PM.

And yeah I see now that my post was pretty pointless. I think I just was a little annoyed after searching for about a month for Honeypots I got nothing..

Sorry Nurbs, I apologize and I hope you will forgive me.

The honeypots up for sale are very stable. I do not just sell them at an early stage with a few workers, where the queen or the colony is still in that critical stage of survival.

It's one of the many reasons they cost the way they do vs. other species. I'm not going to sell you a colony which might die. The weaker queens which don't do well are weeded out, and once the colony stabilizes, they are put up for sale.

Last night I checked on this season's M. testaceus, M. wheeleri, and M. mendax.

A few M. testaceus will be up for sale without a THA setup which you will need eventually. They will be priced around $150. M. wheeleri and M. mendax will be a much higher pricepoint.
