Hello,

I've now had my Camponotus ligniperdus colony for about a week. There are three nanitics and lots of brood. I was originally planning on buying some live food insects for them this weekend, but apparently they no longer have them in stock at my local pet shop.

I've ordered what I needed online instead, but it won't get here till sometime next week. I'd imagine the queen need some protein at this point, as there hasn't been much egg-laying going on as of late.

I'm not sure what to give her. I'm very reluctant about catching something in the house and feeding that to her, as the only insects that are up here right now are a few spiders and house flies. I do have liver paste in the fridge, which I'd imagine might do the trick if they'll take it. I'm just not sure if such a young colony would be interested in something like that and I'm also not sure if it would be harmful for them to eat that kind of processed food.

Any tips or ideas?

Try a TINY piece of cooked meat or beef jerky or something. Not too big so it won't mold

I use bearded dragon dry medley Fluker's of meal worms, crickets and grasshoppers.  I know my ants go for them but they are different species.

Current Colonies;

Acromyrmex Versicolor

Dorymyrmex Bicolor

Pogonomyrmex Californicus
Pogonomyrmex Rugosus

Pogonomyrmex Tenuispinus
Novomessor Cockerelli
Myrmecocystus Mexicanus

Mix up an egg with a little bit of honey or sugar.

Fruit flies, cut a fruit or a rotten fruit and wait, they will swarm to you. During warm seasons though.
