I have 2 colonies of formica which i have dubbed as formica cf. subsericea. However I am not confident since  they are a couple millimeters apart.

 

Formica Queen #1

Location: Okemos, Michigan

Date: July 20-22

Habitat: Grassland 

Length(mm): about 14 mm

Color: Silvery gray-blackish with gray hairy bands on gaster.

Flight time/date: 10-12am

 

Formica Queen #2

Location: Okemos, Michigan

Length(mm): About 12 mm

Habitat: Tree line next to sidewalk

Color: Silvery gray-blackish with gray bands on gaster. Less hairy, more shiny than other queen.

Flight time/date: 10-12am
