Hello! This will probably be my only journal for the time being as my ants aren't doing anything interesting (to be fair my termites aren't either but termites imo are cooler than the ants I have).

I'm currently keeping a Coptotermes and a Schedorhinotermes pair.

The copto has one nymph and 2-3 eggs while the Schedo has 2 eggs.

I originally found the Schedo under a log with about a dozen workers which I tried my best to collect, but all ended up either escaping or dying by the time I got home and I was only left with the pair. They've gotten two new eggs which I'm excited about and I can't wait until they get workers and those coveted two different types of soldiers!!!

I traded for my coptotermes with another keeper in northern NSW who didn't want them mainly to raise as ant feeders, but Australian termites grow way too slowly to be reliable feeders, so now I'm just keeping them for the fun of it. I'll probably provide updates once a week (I check them every Saturday) and I'll post pictures if anything interesting happens.

I've never seen anyone actually raise termites as feeders. That's another one of the ant-keeping urban legends that float around like captive breeding queens and somehow setting up a free range colony.

"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.
