1. Location of collection: Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

2. Date of collection: May 12, 2025

3. Habitat of collection: Conservation Trail

4. Length: 6mm

5. Coloration: appears black with lightly goldened legs.

6. Distinguishing characteristics: 10 or 11 antenna segments. 

7. Anything else distinctive: while trying to capture they were very avoidant and panicky. After being in a test tube for some time, they appear to go between settled and rapturing to get out.

 

I think this ant may be parasitic or semi-claustral since I haven't dealt with something stubborn like this before.

Damn. I'm not keen on attempting to found a parasitic species. maybe I'll can them. How are you able to conclude they're parasitic?

I think you're right! after looking into some different Lasius species it looks identical to Lasius Aphidicola.
