Shipping requires special permits from the USDA most antkeepers do not have. I am just warning you of this because someone might just want to make a sale and not let you know what they are doing is illegal, and you end up paying the price. Look around the general marketplace and see if any past sellers have offered Solenopsis geminata before, and message them about availability.

Just get Solenopsis xyloni yourself once they fly. Pretty common in SoCal. They're a fast-growing native species in the Solenopsis geminata species group that are extremely hardy. I wouldn't think about getting actual invicta or geminata in California at all, since there are a multitude of restrictions placed on transporting those species throughout the state.

According to the USDA, Solenopsis invicta, being a highly dangerous and destructive invasive species, is quarantined in most of Texas, making the movement/sale of the species illegal in quarantine zones. Sale of this species is only legal in certain parts of West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. See the map below.

I have seen xyloni in Arizona, their majors are quite impressive.

Your all good man its always good to let someone know about something before they accidentally make a mistake I agree with you all. Find a native solenopsis species as we shouldn't be illegally buying ants and risking trouble!

Flip I thought they were fine to sell as long as its not across state lines to my understanding, my bad il change the forum name if I can to make sure only people that are buying are in those areas

I edited the title, but honestly I wouldn't even advise selling these awful things. If some dumb kid buys some, then loses interest in ants, it's highly possible they could just release them and cause more problems. It's just not a good idea.

Thanks man for editing the title  :D also to respond I understand many people hate invitca but the same can be said for many invasive ant species that are commonly kept and even if they were native if some kid buys a native species but lives across the state and releases them that could still put the local population at risk from diesease and genetics that might worsen survival for that area and personally I believe solenopsis invicta is underrated especially for intermediate to advanced keepers and I believe the only reason people hate these ants is due to them being invasive but as an ant themselves they have many wanted qualities like polymorphism, fast growth, aggressive feeding responses. But I take measures to be safe an il be sure to ask a crap ton of questions and proof of experience so as to not sell to a kid that can put themselves and others at risk! :X Also I have a personal invicta colony and they are wonderful if you take the right precautions!!!!!! :lol:

 

Also edit: many native species of solenopsis act very similar to Invicta are adored just due to being native so I understand and agree native is better! that doesn't mean Invicta is scum!

1x Formica subsericea, 35-40 workers +  BIG brood pile + 10 pupa.

1x Crematogaster cerasi, 1 workers + finally some bigger brood (The worker that was dying died  :facepalm:)

1x Myrmica ruba sp around 10 workers

*New* 1x  founding Camponotus pennsylvanicus + eggs that die (probably infertile)

*New* 2x Camponotus nova, one is infertile

*As you watch your ants march, remember that every thing begins with a small step and continued by diligence and shared dreams*
