i recently got into antkeeping, and I'm trying to make a nest without having to buy much new things (basically by just using plastic containers) As of now, the few queens i have are founding, but i figured i would have a nest ready

This is the plan i have as of now; am posting here as to make sure there are no problems and oversightings on my part

i understand my handwriting isn't the most legible. Please ask if you can't understand anything

I’ve made a nest exactly like this in the past. If you dig in a few pages of my Formica journal, you’ll see the process:

Its actually the exact same! Great minds think alike :D
I read through your journal (thanks for sharing) and it seems like the formica farm worked pretty well. I'm planning to do the same, and i may upload pictures once I'm done. Thanks again!

Great Formicarium!

I have the perfect container, maybe I'll give this a try for my founding Lasius americanus. Thanks for the inspiration!

Manica invidia (1 queen,  ~200 workers)

Manica invidia (1 colonies, 1 queens plus 3 workers)

Lasius niger (single queen, ~200 workers - naturalistic, predatory set-up)

Lasius americanus (1 colony, ~10 workers)

Tetramorium immigrans (3 colonies, 3 queens, ~ five workers each | 1 colony, 1 queen, ~1200 workers)

Formica aserva (aserva queen, ~15  Formica neorufibarbis workers)

"And God made...everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind.

And God saw that it was good." - Genesis 1:25
