Will ants from the same colony that have been separate for over 24 hr recognize each other?

Me and my dad are working on fixing up one of his old cars, but it has a colony of what I think are Camponotus vicinus in it, I have been working on moving them to a formicarium and have gotten a few dozen or so workers, a little bit of brude, and one of if not the only queen. I hope to be able to work on transferring more workers from the car to the set up but due to my schedule, I won’t be able to do it for at least a day or so. Will the ants recognize each other‘s pheromones even if they’ve been separated for a long time?

It shouldn't be a problem, since the scent on older ants take longer to dissapear. But I'm not sure so best to wait till someone else replies

It'll need at least a few days for the colony scent to dillute significantly.

Also they are less sceptic if they meet "strange smelling" workers further outwards, so if they haven't seen each other for a few days don't drop them directly onto the brood.

The ants look like C.essigi not vicinus.

Nope they'll recognize each other if it's only been a day...and even up to a week I'm sure would be fine. 


Currently raising: 

Manica invidia (1 queen +  ~30 workers)

Lasius niger (single queen + ~200+ workers)

Lasius americanus (2 single queen + brood)

Lasius americanus (1 queen + worker, more on the way!)

Tetramorium immigrans (1 queen + ~1200 workers)

Camponotus seem to be very good at recognizing workers, so they should be able to recognize their sisters for over a week. Callows could have trouble, but they should recognize the other ants as well.

The nest you found probably only had one queen- multiqueen Camponotus colonies are rare, although I’m not sure about this specific species.

Apparently C. Vicinus is one of the only Camponotus that can form polygynous colonies, although I'm unsure if this is just during the founding stage or for life. 


Currently raising: 

Manica invidia (1 queen +  ~30 workers)

There are a few other poly species like C.clarithorax. but some also found together in pleometrosis. An example of this is C.ca02

I'm not sure, but I've kept C. irratians in polygynous setups. I've only kept them till a dozen nanitics, after which I've had to release them
