I have no idea what kind of ant it is.. maybe its just a normal ant lol but this is my first catch and i did see a lot of those hornet looking male ants around it no one had whings so i really got my hopes of for this one!

 

My test tubes are stuck somewhere from china so i had to go to the pharmacy and get this stuff just while i wait for my gear! its been over a month!

 

PLEASE PLEASE tell me i found my first queen guys i will threat her like cleopatra :D

For info i just bought a clean suringe or the part without the sticky stuff :P and i closed one end of with a lighter and filled it as a normal test tube.. water, cotton, queen, qotton the usual way! If anyone wonder cause u can't really see it on these close ups!

Camponotus, major worker. Including a location is helpful if you're looking for a species ID.

 

It's found in the south of norway! Are you sure its not a queen but a major?

Because i have been trying last year as well just a few times not like this year and i actually found a queen under a stone by her self and stole her! But this one was walking around with what looks like males! ugly af :D

Try and go back to the spot if there were males walking around. There’s probably still some queens scurrying around as well.

It's gonna rain for 2 hours in 1 hour from now! The second it stops I'm going straight to the spot on all for four

You might want to wait in good conditions as they do not fly the moment after rain. The conditions have to be at least 70 º F or above (typically above for camponotus) to get any queens or de-alates.

Keeping:

2x - S. molesta (colonies)                1x - C. nearcticus (founding)  (y) New!

1x - C. chromaiodes (colony)           1x - C. subbarbatus (founding)  (y) New!

2x - F. pallidefulva (colonies)             1x T. sessile (mega colony)

2x - C. cerasi (founding)  workers are here!  :yahoo:

1x - B. depilis (founding but no eggs)

2x - P. imparis (colony) 2x P. imparis (founding)  Unfortunately no multi queen P. imparis colonies as all of the queens died due to fungus infection (assumed). RIP  :(

I have had 2 unsuccessful years because I wasn't dedicated enough, and when I see my friends after 3 years, I get angry! I am going to COLLECT queens all summer and select the healthiest!  This is just good for my health anyway :)

Camponotus major worker. Claustral queens almost always have a gaster wider than the head, and the thorax often much fatter then this Camponotus worker.

In not sure where you are, but here in CA the spring camponotus have already flown. They typically fly in 80+ degree weather here, no rain needed.

In FL the first Camponotus queens came out yesterday, and I don’t expect flights until June. Florida ants fly much later than ants in the west.

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.

Camponotus flights depend much less on rain- you’ll probably find some a day or two after the rain, but never the same day.
