Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.
I've also looked into this as it was also initially a concern of mine, but have not found any evidence. The surface magnetic field penny sized(0.75 inch) can vary depending on what type of magnet and it's properties/shape. TLDR version is, the surface magnetic field of the magnets used by Tar Heel Ants are not high enough to be of concern, although admittingly I have not found any article/studies on it's effects on ants. Perhaps that ant group can cite sources of their information?
I suspect they may be referring to a video stated by this article and I think we call can say the magnets from the Tar Heel ants nests do very little to repel them.
