Assistance Needed with a Solenopsis Queen

I have recently acquired a fire ant queen, but the main issue is that I can’t think of a good place to put her where she won’t be disturbed. All closets in the house are readily used. She’s currently has a test tube in a wooden box, with four paper towels in a bad attempt to reduce vibration. So, any help on where to put her, and how to reduce vibrations in the box will be very helpful.

If you have a dresser, then I would put her in there.

Yeah, and make sure to check on her weekly. Btw, what species do you think she is?

2x - S. molesta (colonies)                1x - C. nearcticus (founding)  (y) New!

1x - C. chromaiodes (colony)           1x - C. subbarbatus (founding)  (y) New!

2x - F. pallidefulva (colonies)             1x T. sessile (mega colony)

2x - C. cerasi (founding)  workers are here!  :yahoo:

1x - B. depilis (founding but no eggs)

2x - P. imparis (colony) 2x P. imparis (founding)  Unfortunately no multi queen P. imparis colonies as all of the queens died due to fungus infection (assumed). RIP  :(

True, and they also fly pretty early sometimes, so yeah, that's pretty agreeable.

True, and they also fly pretty early sometimes, so yeah, that's pretty agreeable.

 

I agree with the above statement whole-heartedly


Currently keeping: Pheidole obscurithorax (FINALLY I CAN STUDY THEM AND HAVE THEIR COOL MAJORS  B)), Tetramorium bicarinatum, Solenopsis spp. (probably xyloni, the queens are tiny hehe)

Wanting: Atta texana, Camponotus planatus (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HOOK ME UP WITH ATTA)

Previously kept: Monomorium minimum, Pheidole dentata

What food do you think fire ants would be best suited for? Right now I have assorted berries and some honey, not much in the way of protein but ham and enough beetles to sustain the colony for a fair time.

Any typical feeder insects along with sugar water is all they’ll need.

Beetles are fine, and would probably be more suitable for Solonopsis species. Just refrigerate them (or freeze them, can’t remember) so they’ll be cleaned from harmful substances (unless you’re raising them yourself). Ham is also fine, but you might want to find a way to liquify it. Also make sure the ham is free of things that are harmful to ants.
