I found these both dead in Long Island on 9/1/23, presumably after a flight. I’ve tried to ID them to species but I’m having trouble telling the difference between C. cerasi and C. lineolata queens. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately I have never seen a solid source distinguishing the queens of the two species. I also cannot find any papers describing the queens of cerasi (although the queen of C. lineolata has been described, this was before cerasi was made its own species). When comparing my own specimens, I was unable to find any major differences in thoracic pilosity. I did notice that lineolata had more hairs on the anterior portion of the thorax, but this is probably negligible.
