I was wondering if any of you fellow ant keepers know how to clean a test tube portal without my pogonomyrmex ant colony escaping? I am worried if they escape they will sting and bite me!

Thank you for your time!

You should plug up the entrance with some cotton, then pick up any remaining workers in the outworld with feather weight tweezers and put them in a temporary holding container. From there you want to take out their trash and clean up the test tube portal then unplug the entrance, and finally add back back the workers from the holding container.

The test tube portal may be too small now if you’re having issues cleaning.

"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

What I did was I had an extra test tube ready with water and a cotton ball. Then, I used tape to put together the two test tubes(one with the ants and one clean test tube). Finally, you wait for them to move into the clean test tube and clean the old test tube.

Sorry if my steps are not clear.
