Camponotus can spray acid - not as far as the parasitic Formica wood ants but still over a few centimeters.
From what i've observed with my Camponotus they use it more like a close range shotgun. That is if they don't apply it through direct contact, which is their preferred choice.
We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.
Welcome to Lazy Tube - My Camponotus Journal
My first C. sansabeanus queen was super super aggressive. Unfortunately she and her nanitics were dumb as rocks in the sense that they would attack any food I put in. For example. Mealworm? The workers would freak out and the queen would march angrily over. SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY. And once the food was dead (maybe it was already dead when I put it in, but they'd probably spray it anyway to be sure) it was trash. Yeah they didn't do so well. I loved that "Mean Queen" though
