Ran into some Hepterra white sand at walmart and bought that. Think that's safe for ants as I've been keeping my carpenters in them for a month as seen in my journal.

Anyhow, I was thinking of giving them a more natural looking substrate.

So: Wood substrate (wood chips etc) including the lighter colored ones IF I can find the pet store, any issues with them?

I see there's a few variety to choose from the reptile sections.

What about the 'all natural' ones at like the Home Depot?

I want lighter colored wood substrate because it makes seeing the ants A LOT easier.

Like I know for reptiles, some wood is avoided as it can cause respiratory issues.

You can buy all natural wood smoker pellets and dissolve them to get a nice saw dust substrate.
