This queen was caught in Scituate, Massachusetts at around 5:00 PM on August 25. She is 9mm and is black with long, lighter-colored legs. I believe this could be Aphaenogaster, but I’m not sure because I have never caught this genus before.

Thanks! Looking at Aphaenogaster species in MA, it appears that this is Aphaenogaster picea. As the coloring isn’t like rudis or fulva. Does that look correct?

For picea, check the last four antennal segments to see if they are lighter in color. A. rudis have uniformly colored antennae.
