Around a year ago myself and B_rad went anting out in the Mojave and while anting came across some extremely tiny Pogonomyrmex. Without knowing it we had come across multiple queens and only noticed that we had found queens after we had arrived back to our homes later that day, unfortunately we also had left said queens in the desert. So we again set out this year for anting in the desert and I was able to procure 5 queens, 2 dealates and 3 alates (as of writing this now). When I get back home I will hopefully remember to post some photos of the queens I caught and the nest entrance we saw.

Cool, can’t wait to see!! Any other finds out there?

I also found a couple queens from a Pogonomyrmex sp., but over the weekend. I was surprised because it hadn’t rained where I found them digging founding chambers…

Just did a search and not many journals and size comparison pictures available out there so hope you'll get tons of success and fill in the missing spots. Very neat!

So far I’ve neglected the objective of taking any photos. So still I have no photos but just to give a quick update:

Currently 2 queens have passed, leaving 3 which happen to all be in the same container. This trio contains one dealate, one alate, and one dealate (previously a winged alate however has sense she’d her wings in my care). I recently upped their heat so they should be ramping up any brood production (if they have any). Frankly I can not see any brood although they do seem to huddle around one area even after going to forage so there may be a small pile hidden amongst the sandy ground.

They have access to Kentucky Bluegrass seeds and they seem to feed regularly from them. They also seem to be pretty easy going and calm. They have not once rushed around their container after I pear inside or even open for maintenance.

So pray with me for their successful founding and hopefully I’ll be able to have one of the few colonies that has been documented on here sense founding.

Have a great day!
