Hi all,

I want to DIY my own nests and outworlds for my Lasius Niger colony...

For ventilation I would like to drill tiny holes or cut sliths with a jigsaw for ventilation.

What size holes / width of sliths is the maximum for Lasius Niger to not let the ants thru ?

Greetz,
Peter Lunk

I'd use steel mesh with a mesh width of 0.2mm (many ant shops sell this).

Like make your ventilation holes as big as you want and then just cover them with mesh.

Lasius niger nanitics are pretty small (around 2mm) and can get through even a tiny gap easily.

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

If you’re using fluon, the best route is a totally open lid like this:

Almost no ants can climb upside down on properly ventilated fluon.

Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

I've drilled holes of 0.3 mm around the whole lid edge...

I prefer keeping them open too, Works also perfectly with Talcum or Talcohol.
